Beacon Acquisitions:

Veteran LGBT activist and award-winning academic Michael Bronski will write “An LGBT History of the United States.” This is the second book in Beacon’s new history series—the first was Roxanne Dunbar Ortiz’s “An Indigenous History of the United States.” Remarkably, there’s no single book that covers the entirety of LGBT history, from colonial times to the present, and what’s exciting is that Bronski’s goal is not to simply “fill in the gaps” but “to construct a new way of interpreting and understanding the history of the United States”—an essential goal of this series and, indeed, Beacon’s list. More than a fusion of previously published books, Bronski’s history will, additionally, draw from primary source material including letters, diaries, and first person accounts to produce an intellectually solid, accessible, and altogether innovative way of examining queer history.
