Beacon Press has announced plans to launch its first official blog, Beacon
Broadsides. Beacon Broadsides will launch to coincide with the American Library
Associations Banned Books Week, which begins September 29th, 2007, and
will feature essays, news items, and dispatches from Beacon authors, prospective
authors, affiliates, staff, and others. The blog will also be a forum for discussion,
with all posts open for comments by readers, and it will be updated frequently
to keep the conversation current. First and foremost, Beacon Broadsides will
be a way to expand on the mission of the press and its commitment of freedom
of thought and speech, respect for diversity in all areas of life, the preservation
of our environment, and the education and welfare of our children.
Blog Editor Jessica Bennett, formerly Assistant Editor for Rain Taxi Review
of Books, will provide context for features and post occasional notes of interest
to readers, booksellers, and the publishing community.
Beacon Broadsides will be online for viewing by the public prior to September
29, 2007. The web address will be: http://beaconpress.typepad.com.

They Take Our Jobs! Aviva Chomsky, paperback original,
July 2007, $14.00, 978-0-8070-4156-7
FeministReview (blogspot), review posted September 14th:
Aviva Chomskys They Take Our Jobs! should be mandatory
reading in high schools. Cleanly organized into 21 chapters - one for each
myth, as well as an extra one in there at the end - the volume serves as a
quick, crystal-clear introduction to immigration issues . . . If every American
not just high schoolers, but our elected officials read this
concise, well-documented primer, we just might find ourselves overhauling
our system.
The Boriqua Lens (blogspot), September 14th:
Sounds like a book we should all read, especially you over at CNN.
